Every Friday evening in February, enjoy award-winning environmental films at the Big Green Screen and enjoy our naturaists' learning stations. Location: Big Green Screen Theater, TREC	6 • 1 pm-3 pm Green Valentine's DayDo you see a lot of red during Valentine’s Day? What about green? Learn how to have a green holiday by creating an environmentally friendly Valentine’s Day Card with envelope. Decorate your card with all natural items, including shells found along Presque Isle beach, feathers, moss, acorns and other natural items! Your chances to be creative are almost endless at the TREC. $2 per craft. Appropriate for adults and children alike! Location: TREC

14	15 Presidents Day • 1 pm-2:30 pm Compass ClassLearn the basics of using a good old-fashioned compass to lead you around the Tom Ridge Environmental Center on a scavenger hunt! We will teach you how to use a compass and then you can practice and test your new found skills by following a given azimuth and pacing your distances. The entire program will be held inside the TREC. This program is free. Appropriate for adults and children alike! No fees or registration. Location: Meet at TREC	16	17 • 2 pm-3 pm PI LIttle NaturalistKids ages 3-8 can explore nature outdoors with the naturalist. No fees or registration. Location: Meet at Rotary Pavilion	18	19 • 6 pm-8 pm PI After Dark: Pine Tree Trail Animals such as deer, coyote, owls, raccoons, and many others take advantage of Presque Isle, after dark. Join a Naturalist to learn about the unique behavior of these nocturnal creatures. Learn some fun facts and look for signs that wildlife leave behind along the Pine Tree trail. Dress appropriate for the outdoors. The walk will be about 2 miles. Appropriate for all ages. No fees or registration. 21 • 10:30 am-3:30 pm Beach Glass DrillingJoin guest instructor, Julie Pazun, at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center for a fun day of jewelry making. Participants will be guided in using tools and proper techniques of beach glass drilling. Participants will have the opportunity to make their own necklace and set of earrings. This class is open to participants 16 years and older. Cost: $55.00* (includes all supplies and lunch) payable upon registration. *Pre-registration with payment is required to participate in this program. If participants are unable to attend the program, the payment for program is non-refundable. Openings limited.	22	23	24	25 • 10 am-11 am & 1:30 pm-2:30 pm TREC Through Nature: Animals In WinterStudents will explore how animals have developed unique adaptations to avoid or endure the harsh winter weather. Students will rotate through pods to examine pelts, discover animal signs and homes outside, listen to a story, and construct a craft. Main Standards: 3.1c.2 Adaptation/ Identify changes that occur in animals during the season. 3.1a.9 Science as Inquiry/ Use the five senses as tools with which to observe, classify, collect information and describe observations. 3.1a.5 Form and Function/ Identify parts of living things. Cost $2 per student for Feb. (Success by 6 is pleased to be able to offer a $1 per child scholarship for the February preschool program). Deadline to Register: Thurs, Feb 18. Location: Big Green Screen Theater, TREC	27 • 10:30 am - Noon Winter Wildlife for KidsBring the kids to Presque Isle State Park for a hike through the interior trails of the park. Meet at the Lighthouse Parking Lot. The naturalist will lead the hike through various habitats looking for signs of wildlife and how to view wildlife. Cameras and binoculars are encouraged. Dress for the weather. No fee or registration. Location: Meet at Lighthouse Parking Lot• 2 pm-3 pm SnowflakesJoin a naturalist to discover how these ice sculptures are formed, the most common types, and their patterns. We will venture outside and learn the techniques of snowflake watching. Although this type of recreation can’t be done on a warm summer day, a snowflake watcher will never be bothered by mosquitoes. This fun program is designed for children and an accompanying adult. Participants will get a truly hands-on adventure as we explore this topic with a story, craft, game, and outdoor exploration. No fees or registration. Location: Meet at TREC
